As soon as I had heard that Knighthawk Racing had purchased an EX 257 MG Lola and would be running it at Sebring I contacted team owner Steve Knight and told him that I was bringing my ex works Sebring MG down for the event. He graciously invited me to come by and have a look at the car and take a few pictures. The body work of the Knighthawk MG is in the background. Timing is everything and this particular week my timing was off. LMP cars like the MG Lola are rarely intact for more than 10 minutes before and after an outing, when we arrived the car was already torn down for service so the side by side shot of #43 with the Knighthawk MG didn't happen but I hope that we may be able to arrange it later this summer.
The Knighthawk MG Lola stripped down in the paddock. The A.E.R. engine carries the MG octagon on the cam cover.
The Knighthawk MG Lola EX 257 chassis #004 started from 3rd on the grid outqualifying most of the LMP900 cars and ran with the leaders in the early hours of the race until gearbox problems dropped them out of contention. Here it is entering turn 3 and on the pit straight heading into turn 1.
The Knighthawk team will be running all of the events in the American LeMans Series and will be joined in June at LeMans by two works entries.
This is the class winning EX 257 Intersport #37 MG Lola which is chassis #001. It qualified well down in the field due to some teething problems but once these were sorted it climbed up steadily through the field to win the LMP 675 class and take 7th place overall.
